National President to Attend 2025 State Assembly

2/4/2025

NSDAC National President Mary Raye Casper is attending the Tennessee State Society 2025 State Assembly on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mt. Juliet. She will speak during that evening's Candlelight Supper.

The National President Project’s primary focus for her 2024-2027 Administration will be the first English settlement in the present-day United States that was founded in 1587 on the northern end of Roanoke Island. This is the colony now known to history as “The Lost Colony.”

Before there were colonists at Jamestown and Plymouth, about 118 English men, women, and children came to the New World to establish a permanent settlement named the “Cittie of Raleigh.” This colony was originally located within the large English territory claim of “Virginia” named in honor of Queen Elizabeth I. The present-day site of the first colony is now within Dare County, North Carolina.

NSDAC will help support specific Project Elements at the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Manteo, NC, to help improve and enhance visitor understanding of the lives of the first colonists, their known experience, and the humanity of the Raleigh expeditions.

The Raleigh voyages to Roanoke Island and the first English colony in the New World led to further colonization and the founding of the original thirteen colonies which became the USA. The “Cittie of Raleigh” on Roanoke Island is the site where the birth of our nation began!

The Tennessee State Society dedicated a marker at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Vonore, Tennessee, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. The event was attended by national and state DAC officers and members, and members of the church congregation.

The marker reads: "St. Paul's was organized in Monroe County TN in 1817 by early settlers of German, French, and Swiss ancestry. In 1820 the church became one of the 18 Tennessee congregations to form the Evangelical German Lutheran Tennessee Synod. The congregation petitioned the state legislature for land and a German speaking pastor. In 1825 the State of Tennessee granted in trust to the Lutheran Society four acres of land in the Hiwassee District. The first building and pews were of logs, the roof of cedar shingles and a floor of dirt.

The present church was dedicated in 1920.
